PSL Schedule: 4th Edition’s Fixtures and Venues

Pakistan Super League 2019

Pakistan Cricket Board established the HBL sponsored Pakistan Super League in 2015.  PSL 4 with 34 matches will be played from February 14th to March 17th, 2019.  The tournament is scheduled to held in UAE. PCB decided to bring the last eight games of the competition in Pakistan. Likewise last year, the final would be played in Karachi Stadium, Pakistan.  Six teams will compete with each other for the admired trophy of PSL. PCB has announced the PSL Schedule for season 2019.

Eight matches will be played in Pakistan while final is scheduled to held in Karachi.  Last significant game played in the largest city of Pakistan was the PSL 3 semifinal.  In meeting heeded by PCB chairman Eshan Mani, PCB representative and all the franchise owners were present.  Ehsan Mani welcomed the incorporation of the franchises in the decision-making process.

All franchises and the board is a partner in the project, and he is confident that they all work together for the next edition — the Draft of this year based on last year’s ranking. The teams were allowed to retain ten players.  The chairman signifies the introduction of T10 league in Pakistan Super League.  The board will work on the T10 tournament and reveal it once find a satisfactory window.

Earlier, PSL signed South African player AB de Villers. Recently, he retired from international cricket. The league already has Brendon McCullum, Chris Gayle, Darren Sammy, Shahid Afridi, Shane Watson, and Kumar Sangakkara. AB de Villers joined the Lahore Qalandars’ team.

Schedule, Franchises, and Squads

Pakistan Cricket Board has officially announced the PSL Schedule 2019. The event will begin from February 14, 2019, and ends on March 17, 2019. The league will start with the opening match between Islamabad United and the sixth team. The tournament comprises off thirty-four games.

PSL 1st Edition

After a poor start, the team qualified the knockout round of the tournament. The team won four matches out of eight and finished with eight points from group games. They faced the fourth position. In Eliminator, ISLU won by nine wickets and achieved their target of 111 in 15th over. Mohammad Sami was a man of the match and Brad Haddin, and Dwayne Smith scored the fifties. In second qualifier United met Peshawar Zalmi. Sharjeel Khan scored the first century in Pakistan Super League. Islamabad posted 176 for three and bowled out Zalmi for 126. The win took ISLU to the finals against Quetta Gladiators. In final Quetta posted 174-7 in 20 overs and United scored 174 -4 with eight balls remaining. United won the first season title of PSL and became the inaugurating champion in 2016.

PSL 2nd Edition

United continued its winning streak from last season. The team played the first match of the second edition of PSL. They played the game against Peshawar and managed to win by seven wickets.  They handed their first loss of the season to Gladiators.

Furthermore, ISLU won thrilling last ball match against Zalmi. More, the team lost to Lahore Qalandar by one wicket, also, a registered win against Quetta. Like previous year Islamabad faced Karachi in the eliminator. Kings knock out the defending champions.

PSL 3rd Edition

IU lost its first match of season 2018 against Zalmi. The team rebounded against Multan Sultans by winning it five wickets left.  After the league shifted to Sharjah, the team failed to defend the Gladiators. However, the team bounced back and won against Lahore Qalandars. In nest tournament, they beat Karachi king and team qualified for the final. In the final, Peshawar won the toss and elected to bat. They give of 149, and the team chased the target and became the champion of PSL 2018. Luke Ronchi hit five sixes in first five overs, and Faheem Ashraf scored the winning runs. He hooked Wahab Raiz for a six with one run remaining.

PSL 1st Edition

Peshawar Zalmi began their season winning their two matches. The team lost against Quetta Gladiators in the next game. The team won six of the eight group stage matches.  Zalmi got the first position on point table.  The team played the first playoff against Quetta.  In qualifier 1, Quetta won by one run. In second qualifier the Zalmi met Islamabad United, because of, first place position of in the table. Peshawar lost the match and eliminated from the tournament. Wahab Riaz took 15 wickets and became the leading wicket-taker, and Tamim Iqbal with 267 runs was the leading run scorer.

PSL 2nd Edition

Zalmi traded Amir Yamin for Shoaib Maqsood with Lahore Qalandars and retained ten players. Peshawar Zalmi lost to Islamabad united by seven wickets, in their first game of the edition. The team won by seven wickets against Karachi Kings. There is a collapse in chase of 160 runs against Lahore Qalandars, before getting on the line. The repeated shower abandoned their match against Quetta Gladiators. Against United, Zalmi lost a hard-fought game. The Zalmi continued their losing streak and lost against Karachi Kings in a thrilling contest. In the next two matches, the team managed to win against Lahore Qalandars and Quetta Gladiators. In first qualifier the team faces Gladiators. The Gladiators progressed in final and Zalmi in qualifier 2. They defeated Karachi Kings at the second qualifier. In concluding, the team defeated Gladiators and won the championship title of the second edition.

PSL 3rd Edition

The defending champion suffered a loss against debutant Multan sultans by seven wickets.  Zalmi secured a comfortable win against Islamabad united. Furthermore, the team suffered an injury against Karachi kings. The kings prevailed by five wickets. The team won thrilling against Quetta Gladiators. The team comfortably won against Lahore Qalandars. In final Peshawar lost to Islamabad United by three wickets. The team won the toss and elected to bat first.  United’s Luke Ronchi hit five sixes in first five overs. United’s Faheem Ashraf hooked Wahab Riaz for six with just one run required in the 17th over.

PSL 1st Edition

Quetta began with comfortable wins against Islamabad and Karachi Kings. In the next game, Lahore Qalandars defeated the team, followed a big win over Islamabad. In this match, Grant Elliott proved instrumental in the victory. This win took the team on the first position on the table. The team won against Karachi kings. The team was the first to make a playoff stage. Quetta won six of the eight matches and finished the second position in Pakistan Superleague. Gladiators defeated Peshawar by one run. The win qualified Quetta for the final. In final, Quetta lost to United by six wickets. Ahmed Shehzad was the team leading run scorer win 290 runs. Mohammad Nawaz was the leading wicket-taker for the team taking 13 wickets.

PSL 2nd Edition

Quetta released Kumar Sangakkara and Grand Elliott for 2017 season. Quetta retained ten players. In their first game of the season, Gladiators defeated Lahore Qallandars. Hasan Khan was adjudged player of the match, for all-around performance. In the next match, Qladiatars beat Karachi by seven wickets. Rilee Rossouw was adjudged Man of the match, for the match-winning knock of 76 off 53 balls. The team suffered the loss of the season against Islamabad United. Against Peshawar Zalmi the match was aboundand after repeated showers.

Furthermore, the team successfully chased 201 against Lahore      Qalandars and the game labeled as the match of the season. Gladiators continued their winning streak beating Karachi kings by six wickets. This win, effectively, made Gladiators the first team to qualify to playoffs. The team lost both its matches against Islamabad United and Peshawar Zalmi. In playoffs, the Gladiators beat Zalmi by one run. Muhammad Nawaz denied Peshawar Zalmi from winning run. Eventually, the team qualified to the final. In final, Quetta met Peshawar and lost to Zalmi by 58 runs.

PSL 3rd Edition

The Gladiators degraded their 100 % success rate against Karachi king, in their opening game of the season. Hence, they lost to Karachi Kings for the first time by 19 runs in a chase of 150. Quetta rebounded and won to Lahore Qalandars.  The Gladiators beat Islamabad united by six wickets. In the following game, the team lost against Peshawar Zalmi. In this game, an injured Darren Sammy Single-handedly won the match for his team. Multan Sultans beat Quetta in the next game. The team experienced a change of fortune and won against Multan Sultans by two wickets. In the next two games, the team beat Peshawar Zalmi and Karachi kings.

PSL 1st Edition

At Dubai Stadium, Karachi Kings won against Lahore Qalandars. Muhammad Amir took a hat-trick. The team won two matches of the eight-stage games. They got the fourth position on the points table. However, the team qualified for the qualifier because the team had a better head to head record than Lahore Qalandars.  In qualifier match, the team lost against Islamabad United by nine wickets. The United eliminated the team from the tournament.

PSL 2nd Edition

In their first match of the second edition, the Kings lost to Zalmi by seven wickets.  The team failed to defend against Quetta Gladiators. The Kings continued their losing streak and faced loss against Lahore Qalandars. The team managed to win against defending champion, Islamabad United. Karachi won the match with Peshawar Zalmi in a thrilling contest. Once again, the team lost against Quetta by six wickets. They won the last ball finished match with Lahore Qalandars. In the eliminator, the team faced Islamabad United, and the team knocked out the defending champions and qualified for the second playoff.

PSL 3rd Edition

Shahid Afridi joined the team as President. Karachi Kings won against Quetta by 19 runs, in their first match of the edition.  The Kings defeated the champions of last season Peshawar Zalmi. In the next game, Lahore Qalandars lost against the team, and the match adjudged Shahid Afridi man of the match. In the second eliminator, the team gets eliminated.

PSL 1st Edition

In the initial player draft, they pick Cris Gayle, Umar Akmal, Dwayne Bravo, Azhar Ali and Yasir Shah. The LQs lost its two consecutive matches against Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi. The team won against Quetta Gladiators for the 1st time. LQs won two of eight group matches, although, they qualified for the play-off.  Qalandars got the last position in the first edition of Pakistan Cricket League. Beside this, Umar Akmal won the best batsman award. He was the highest run scorer as he scored 335 runs with four fifties.  During finals, LQs got Spirit of the Game Award and Fair Play award.

PSL 2nd Edition

Qalandars traded Cris Gayle for Sohail Tanvir with Karachi Kings.  The team also traded Shoaib Maqsood for Aamir Yamin from Peshawar Zalmi. The franchise signed Brendon Mccullum (New Zealand former player) their new Captain.  At Second edition player draft the team picks new players (Yasir Shah and Sunil Narine).  LQs lose the closely fought opening match against Quetta Gladiators.

In the next game, they bounced back by defeating Islamabad United.  In the following match, Qalandars collapsed against Zalmi. The team beat Karachi Kings, and it registered their second win in the tournament.  In next match, Gladiators defeat Qalandars. The team managed to win against ISLU by 1-wicket following the loss.  Umer Akmal anchored the team with 66 runs, and grant Elliot finished the chase with a six. The team suffered defeat against Zalmi and lost a must-win match fought to the arch-rivals, Kings.  The losses knocked out LQs from playoff proceeding in the second season.

PSL 3rd Edition

In 2017 season, the team suffered significant batting collapse and lost matches against Multan Sultans, Gladiators, and Karachi Kings.  Quetta won by nine wickets. They got the excellent start but could not build it, eventually lose.  Qalandars lost a match against Islamabad United; they leveled the score of 122 runs and instigated a Super Over.  Qalandars set a target of 16 runs and United achieved the objective successfully on the last ball. LQs continued losing streak; once again, they suffered batting collapse in a match against Zalmi. Lahore was eliminated and become the first team eliminated from the tournament.

Last year, PCB added a new team named as Multan Sultans. PCB sold the franchises for $93 million for ten years.  Later this year, the contract of the franchise is terminated. A new team will replace the franchise this year. The franchise will rename after the contract sold to the interested candidate.
